About Eze Echie's work:
Poem Title:
Blessed Ant, Blessed Elephant
Poem Theme:
Originality, creativity, uniqueness, comparison and competition
Poem Inspiration:
Comparisons and competitions are a part of human existence. They are both good in some sense. However, they become an evil – a huge one at that – when they are needless and unhealthy. Unhealthy comparisons and competitions have become very endemic and nauseating evils in contemporary human societies. Thus, some people are unusually driven to satanic degrees of desperation in their pursuits in life and search for relevance, because they want to be like someone or become something which they are not naturally made to be.

The poem emphasises the need for people to hinge their lives on and harp on their strengths and beauties, not their weaknesses and ugliness. Each creature is endowed with its own natural beauties and ugliness, strengths and weaknesses as exemplified by the lives of the ant and elephant.

The ant is a creature whose strength and wisdom. The Holy Bible profusely captures, highlights and commends its uniqueness. It is in this exuberant exultation in celebration of its wisdom (strength) and hard work that this poem is inspired, regardless of its inability to compare to the elephant in height and size, and, perhaps, physical strength.

The last lines sum up the points:

The ant is an elephant
The elephant is an ant.

So, the ant is actually a giant – as its wisdom and strength stand out. In the same vein, the elephant is also an ant – because it has its own wisdom and strength. Neither the ant nor the elephant depends on the other’s wisdom and strength to live a successful life. Each does not need to distort the configuration of the ecosystem to the detriment of the other.

In addition to the themes of comparison and competition, we find here the themes of originality, uniqueness, beauty, and wisdom. All of these characteristics are encapsulated in the ant’s manifestation of self-realisation and self-actualisation by maximsing its potential and strength. These things become obvious when its life is closely examined. It was these attributes that brought about the writing of the poem.
How long have they been writing poems:
More than 20 years
How they discovered their passion for poetry and word art:
I got fascinated about poetry as I found it closely related to music, an aspect of life I have always been very passionate about. As I joined the church choir and sang hymns, I saw how rich in poetry the hymns were (are) and spurred me into getting to write poems and dig deeper into understanding poetry.
